Original Fine Art Pastels

Pastels are a unique painting medium in that the colors are mixed on the paper by overlaying or blending, rather than on a palette. Bonnie E. Rodgers paints from what she knows painting traditional subjects, including portraits, in a contemporary style using watercolor and pastel: flowers, children, the midwest and so much more. Painting "en plein aire" lifts her spirit.  The wind, sun, even the fragrance of the air and the surrounding sounds contribute and enhance the connection between her and her subject.

The colors and people of this Nebraska artists backyard and her many journeys influence her pastel drawings and pastel paintings of landscapes, portraits, and slice-of-life pastel vignettes. She paints usual scenes, expressions, and moments that most of us miss. Her representational style adds depth and a surprising realism of light and shadow to her pastel paintings. Studying with renowned pastelists have served her well as she demonstrates excellence and versatility in the media of pastel and passes her knowledge onto her students in her workshops.

Great care must be used to preserve this style of work. Bonnie sprays the image with a fixative to preserve the work. The images are created on pastel paper or pretreated Illustration board. UltraViolet coated. If they are matted a reverse bevel allows the flaking of any pastel to drop behind the mat and not disturb the images professional look.

Framing index: framed in wood (WF), metal framed (MF) or you can have it shipped shrink-wrapped (SW) and frame it in your own design. (Note: These images should never be framed with plexiglas because it causes static which pulls the pastel from the paper.
